Spring into the city for the WAAPA Live artist series at Brookfield Place

Four WAAPA students play instruments and sing in the foyer of Brookfield Place.

WAAPA students Arvis Mena Lescay (Bass Guitar), Grace Kay (Saxophone), Raymond Zhang (Guitar) and Emma Scanlon (Vocals) will be performing at the Brookfield Place café court alfresco dining area during spring.

The Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) and Brookfield Place have partnered to bring a series of free, lunchtime concerts to the Perth CBD this spring.

Head into the city on Wednesdays and Fridays from 13 September 2023 until 10 November 2023 for performances by contemporary, jazz and classical music artists, including Arvis Mena Lescay (Bass Guitar), Grace Kay (Saxophone), Raymond Zhang (Guitar) and Emma Scanlon (Vocals).

With performances from 11.30am to 1.30pm, the series will offer a taste of what’s to come when WAAPA arrives at the new ECU City campus from semester one, 2026.

WAAPA student and saxophonist, Grace Kay, said being able to showcase her music to new audiences in the Perth CBD was an incredible opportunity.

“Performing is what I love to do, and being able to share the stage with our friends we have made through WAAPA, and share our music with Perth, is so special for us,” she said.

Professor David Shirley, Executive Dean of WAAPA added: “As we prepare for the move to the state-of-the-art ECU City campus, WAAPA’s partnership with Brookfield Place marks the beginning of a new and exciting phase in our history.

“By bringing business, education and the arts together, this collaboration helps to energise and enliven the CBD, which in turn will bring many benefits to all who live and work there.”
